Lately, I have been resting a lot, because I have been congested. Waking up late in the afternoon, a visit to Freebirds World Burrito, and buying some gloves and Kirkland Signature™ Aller-Tec™, 365 Tablets only availed a half hour yesterday between the time that I returned home and had to pick up my compatriots for the commute to Lawrence. This evening, I made some DiGiorno® for the family for dinner. For safety’s sake: Material safety data sheets available online
Hey, a Leica camera! I’ve been wanting one...
“Material safety data sheets (MSDS) are sometimes referred to as safety data sheet (SDS) or product safety data sheet (PSDS) and they are an important component of product stewardship and workplace safety and health.

The MSDS are intended to provide workers and emergency personnel with procedures for handling or working with that substance in a safe manner, and include information such as physical data (boiling point, flash point, etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment and spill-handling procedures.

At JCCC, Gary Cook, manager, housekeeping and custodial services, has developed an online library of MSDS. At this link you may enter into the search box most any related search word to help you search the MSDS database. To find the specific MSDS you are looking for you will need to know the manufacturer.

If you have questions regarding the MSDS database or to add or delete an MSDS from the database, please contact Cook.”

For safety’s sake: Takes steps to handle holiday stress
Rainbow Dash is planning her revenge. The rest are soon to follow.
Hearth’s Warming Scenes - One Horse Open Sleigh
by *ImmortalTanuki on deviantART
“Do you experience holiday cheer or holiday drear? The holidays are often painted as a picture of happiness, joy and gatherings with family and friends.

That may be the case for many people. Others find the holiday season dreary and stressful, due to using extra money on gifts or parties, or spending free time hosting, cooking, cleaning or baking.

When stress levels rise, healthy lifestyle habits are often put on the back burner. You may end up getting less sleep, not exercising as often or eating unhealthy foods or food portions.

On average, Americans gain seven to 12 pounds from Thanksgiving to Christmas. You don’t have to be a part of that statistic, and you can keep stress levels at bay too.
  • Set a goal to maintain your healthy habits. The holiday season is not the best time to set weight loss goals. Instead set goals around portion control, physical activity and ‘me time.’
  • Taste the foods you love, without overdoing it. Be selective and only enjoy the foods you really want, in small amounts. You can reduce portion sizes by using smaller plates, serving yourself, and taking at least 20 minutes to eat before deciding on seconds.
  • Maintain a routine. When possible, continue with your normal, daily schedule and add in physical activity when you can. Don’t stress if you can’t.
    • When shopping, park far from the entrance to add extra steps.
    • Walk a lap or two at the mall instead of rushing in and out, when time permits.
    • Carry your own grocery or shopping bags to the car.
    • Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
    • Go for a walk with family or friends during gatherings.
  • Load up on the H20. When you’re busy, it’s easy to forget to drink water. H20 helps refresh your skin, improves your metabolism and lessens cravings.
  • Sleep. Seven to nine of the 24 hours in a day are meant for sleep. Getting enough sleep allows your body to repair itself, diminishes stress and improves productivity.
  • Decompress. Spending time with family, in crowded areas, and balancing budgets is stressful. Aim to do something you enjoy every day, even if it is just for a few minutes. Taking time for yourself will help you relax and regroup.”

The 12 days of holiday cyber security
Poor Suguha, cock-blocked by Facebook.

“On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… peace of mind.
The holiday season is the time of the year when schemers, scammers and hackers prey on the most unsuspecting shoppers.

A study by Adobe Digital Publishing reported that 21 percent of total online sales will come from mobile devices this holiday season. To help ensure a safe online experience this year, here are McAfee’s top 12 holiday traps to avoid as you ‘cyber-shop’.

1. Fraudulent websites try to lure you into typing in your credit card and personal details by promoting great deals. Now they have your money and information and you could be left empty handed.

2. Malicious mobile apps. Be careful when downloading apps; you could download a malicious app designed to seal your information or charges to your phone bill.

3. Travel scams. Phony travel web pages with beautiful pictures and too-good-to be true deals are used to get you to hand over your financial details.

4. Holiday spam/phishing. Mass email messages advertising cheap Rolex watches, Kindles, or other ‘perfect gifts’ are meant to lure you – don’t fall for it.

5. Skype message scare. Be wary of instant messages with the line ‘LOL…is this your new profile pic?’ because when you click on the link your computer is infected and your files could be held for ransom.

6. Bogus gift cards. Cyber criminals can’t help but want to get in on the action by offering bogus gift cards online. Be wary of buying gift cards from third parties and buy directly from the retailer instead.

7. Holiday smishing. Using text messages, scammers try to lure you into revealing personal information by pretending to be a legitimate organization, business or store. Always access credible sites directly.

8. Social media scams. Beware of ads and postings for contests and ‘stay-at-home’ jobs from your Facebook and Twitter ‘friends’. These are a form of mass mailings and they are not your friend.

9. Fake charities. In this season of giving, the bad guys are hoping to get in on the giving by sending spam emails and advertising fake charities, often using names that are very similar to the legitimate organizations/groups.

10. Dangerous e-cards. E-cards are a popular way to send a quick ‘thank you’ or holiday greeting but some may contain spyware or viruses that download onto your computer once you click to view the greeting.

11. Phony classifieds. Beware of enticing product offers that ask for too much personal information or to wire funds via Western Union — these are most likely scams.

12. Helpful resources. To stay one step ahead of potential hoaxes during the holiday season and throughout the year, here are some free resources to assist you. Use Snopes to research suspicious email offers and urban legends and see if they’re legitimate. If you have questions about suspicious online shopping activity or charitable giving, contact the Better Business Bureau (BBB) at 800-856-2417 or visit the BBB website.”

“The JCCC Debate team closed out the first semester with one of their most successful tournaments of the season this weekend at Illinois State University.

The team of Brenden Brower-Freeman and Jesse Nation won the junior varsity tournament championship after defeating Kansas City Kansas Community College on a 3-0 decision in finals. They earned the second seed of the tournament after a 5 - 1 preliminary round record with victories over KCKCC, Lindenwood, Concordia College, and Illinois State University.

The team of Alexis McMahon and Fernando Cardenas finished in third, with a quarterfinal debate against the University of Minnesota to advance to the semi-finals. There they were matched up against the higher seeded JCCC team of Brower-Freeman and Nation and thus did not advance to the finals, finishing in third place for the tournament.

In the varsity division, typically reserved for students in their junior or senior season, the team of Daniel Plott and David Cuellar advanced to the elimination rounds before losing in the quarterfinals. This is the third time this year that Cuellar and Plott have advanced to the elimination rounds of a varsity tournament.

The team also won four individual speaking awards. In the junior varsity division, Cardenas was recognized as the sixth overall speaker and Brower-Freeman was 10th. In the varsity division, Cuellar was recognized as the fourth speaker and Plott was 10th.”

“JCCC and Ottawa University signed an agreement Tuesday that will allow JCCC students to earn a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa at a reduced cost.

With the signing, JCCC president Terry Calaway and Ottawa president Kevin Eichner created a pathway called OttawaU at JCCC. In January, Ottawa will begin offering classes at JCCC that will lead to bachelor degrees in human services, health care management, business administration with a marketing concentration, and public administration with a management concentration.

The bachelor degrees, available only to JCCC students, allow students to take up to 80 credit hours at JCCC and the remaining junior and senior-level classes through Ottawa. Ottawa will be offering scholarships to students who take their classes, which could allow students to save up to 40 percent on the completion of their bachelor’s degree.

Ottawa also will be setting up its classes in a way that will allow a student to complete a degree at an accelerated pace.

To learn more, visit OttawaU at JCCC Transfer Advantage.

Additional information is available.”

no tengo dinero

While I rode with my friend Aaron to lunch at Subway on Monday, Aaron remarked, “I remember this from my freshman year in college,” as Alice 102 played a selection from Pearl Jam. Now known as 95-7 The Vibe, I first heard alternative rock on Channel Z95.7 during my freshman year in college, and even picked up a CD at a mobile broadcast.
And if you do, I'd like to see what you've done!
