On-line friends are special

In one form or another, I have been on-line for almost sixteen years, and through reading this post, you may feel compelled, “Sign up for Twitter...” The first on-line friends were already my friends from Grace Christian Fellowship Church: Chad Maag and Matthew Moore.
Perhaps if I had been as disciplined in my studies, then I too could have been a graphic designer; Chad is a freelance graphic designer, and can be found on Twitter:
chadmaag (@chadmaag) on Twitter
“Sign up for Twitter to follow chadmaag (@chadmaag). graphic designer, sarcastic, bibliophile, ornery, poker enthusiast, introverted, misanthrope, slightly NSFW.”
Chad may also be found on Posterious:
the land of my sojourn
“I tell people that I'm closest to that I don’t have good or bad days. I’m not that lucky. Right now it’s more like I have good and bad moments. Those moments, when viewed as a sequence, eventually comprise a day. I may wake up feeling wonderful, and attack the day with gusto. My type-A personality …”
One day, Matt and I chatted from late evening to early morning, and he has liked to tell that story. Matt is now married with a son:
Matt the Artist
“If you have been wondering why things have been rather quiet as of late, and why I have not been adding much art…Well here is the reason. Furthermore Creative. It is a new store on Etsy.com…and yes, it rocks.”
Around this time, I also met Denton at Shawnee Mission North. I visit his home at least once a week, and we share most of the similar politics:
Don Denton Turley (@agrippakc) on Twitter
“Sign up for Twitter to follow Don Denton Turley (@agrippakc).”
Wow, Monopoly was really fun with seven players. Denton also keeps a blog on WordPress:
Chaotic Reflections Of A Reformed Optimist
“NEW! With sweetly embittered meaty bits!...”
Jack Shedd has known Denton longer than I. Jack coined, “Betty Ford’s First Project,” the name of Denton’s previous improv troupe. He keeps a blog called the Big Contrarian, and also comments humorously on Twitter:
Jack Shedd (@etchalon) on Twitter
“Sign up for Twitter to follow Jack Shedd (@etchalon). A classic modern.”
On Monday evenings, Joel Kershner and I can both be found at the same place of work. Joel is associated with the Cowtown Computer Congress:

“Sign up for Twitter to follow asmodianx2000 (@asmodianx2000). Computers, InfoSec, RPG, Web Development, PHP.”
Benjamin Hodge, Denton, and I once met each other at Homer’s Coffee House:

Of course, Ben is also on Twitter:
Benjamin Hodge (@benjaminhodge) on Twitter
“Sign up for Twitter to follow Benjamin Hodge (@benjaminhodge). Conservative. Former Legislator, JCCC Trustee, JoCo Gov't Property Rights Chair, OP Republican Party Founder. President, State & Local Educational Group of KS.”
John, David, and I watched The Office on Saturday night:
Roving Imp Theater (@rovingimp) on Twitter
“Sign up for Twitter to follow Roving Imp Theater (@rovingimp). Improvisational comedy. All the time.”
John and I were both surprised when David Rushing finally joined Twitter:
David Rushing (@DavidProv) on Twitter
“Sign up for Twitter to follow David Rushing (@DavidProv). I do improv mostly in Bonner Springs and stuff at my church. I currently live in a house with a family member. Cool huh?”
Oh My Gosh, on-line friends are so special, and I have never met a few of them in person. I am now spent, so I will write another post about my friends who I only know through Twitter.

Botch-fest 023

Among of my friends, I hold an unpopular political view, so I tend to not discuss politics:

Politics is not considered polite conversation. I do not know enough about the issues to discuss them calmly or avoid ad hominem. I am on the opposite side of the debate on most issues. I do not like being wrong or being made a fool. I would rather keep friends and be respectful.

Kitto I must write a disclaimer about the strong language that will soon appear in this post.

Every time I look into a monitor, Prime, my circuits sizzle.”

Every so often I become so sick and tired of being labeled for my politics, and and enduring an image like this:

The fucking Unabomber does not count, and they do not want to face the legacy of the violence brought by the Weather Underground, who is supposed to be celebrated.

My friend, Joel, told me about the following:

JCCC offers CERT training Nov. 15 to 17

“Did you know that in the United States only 1 percent of our population is trained as an emergency responder? This means that in a disaster it may be several hours, or even days, before the fire department and other emergency personnel might be able get to your neighborhood.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

JCCC has 130 active CERT-trained employees who are ready to respond to an emergency here on campus, in their community or anywhere they may travel. With the incidence of tornados, flooding, wildfires, hurricanes, earthquakes, and even wild animals on the loose, you just never know when your emergency training might come in handy!

JCCC coordinates the three-day CERT training with the Overland Park Fire Department, with lunch and supplies provided, all at no cost to employees. The next series will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 15 to 17. You may register online using CRN 30755 or contact Staff Development at ext. 7654.”
Well, that was better.

Humor vampirism 004

My need to be technically correct, the best kind of correct, sometimes sucks away my own humor:
The umlaut shows correctly in your comment, David. Like in the following, an umlaut may also be noted by adding an E after the A, O, or U:
„Wenn ich ein kleines Pferd waere ...‟
Part of an assignment in my German class, one continuation of the previous phrase reads:
„Wenn ich ein kleines Pferd waere, wuerde ich eine kleine Pferdestaerke machen.‟
Horsepower from a horse shows that both my German phrase and the following translation are technically accurate:
“If I was a small horse, I would make one small horsepower.”
For further discussion, I reference Wikipedia:
“This unit (German: ,Pferdestärke‛ = horse strength) is no longer a statutory unit, but is still commonly used in Europe, South America, Japan and India especially by the automotive and motorcycle industry.”
The preceding was a response that I left on my blog, so any humor vampirism is more safe this time than in my last attempt at such.

I am only going to resume my sketching to illustrate the following unreal condition:

Pony is the German word for pony, but I thought that I would instead use the phrase, “a small horse,” yet Equestria Daily gives me some hope: How we became Bronies.

Among of my friends, I hold an unpopular political view, so I tend to not discuss politics:
  1. Politics is not considered polite conversation.

  2. I do not know enough about the issues to discuss them calmly or avoid ad hominem.

  3. I am on the opposite side of the debate on most issues.

This is going to be so great!

So far, today has been really great, something which Garfield would not say about any Monday. Following the viewing of a few episodes of Ancient Inventions with Terry Jones at the home of Denton, I arrived at my home and around midnight went to bed. I was too tired to watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic this morning, and got around too late for my sister, so she drove herself to school, while I went back to bed, after I briefly attempted to do some homework for my German class.

I actually got around a little later still, and left myself little time before my shift to go to Mr Goodcents for the sandwich. With eight minutes remaining, I called my place of work to say that I would likely be ten minutes late. I entered campus, and thought to myself:
“I should try very hard to find a space in front of the building, but I can’t get that lucky. Can I?”
Well, I did, I did find a space in the lot in front of the building. In actuality, I thought that I had gotten lucky, yet the revisionist in me thinks:
This is gonna be so great!
I started work at five minutes past noon, and ate the first quarter of my foot-long sandwich. Two hours hence, I ate another quarter. Two hours later, I ate a third quarter, when I take a break for my class. Between Wednesday evening and this morning barely gave my homework a second thought, so I was not prepared for class tonight. Fortunately an exchange student from Dresden visited our class, and my German about forgetting my homework went over well. I should soon e-mail Eric, to at least sample some German electronica music.

I really wanted to refill my QuikTrip mug with iced tea from the Food Court, but I was hungry for a little more than the waiting, final quarter of sandwich, so I stopped at the <C> Store. Aaron was taking a break to make a call, but Larissa, a friend from Denton’s first improv troupe, was there. I bought a sandwich and a bottled water. She and I talked for a short while until Aaron returned.

While Aaron described the recent college football game between Ohio State and Nebraska, I practiced active listening. I learned a few things about how American football is scored, and how Nebraska rallied in the third quarter (see what I did there?). I told Aaron about the game that I saw while I was at Bar West on Saturday afternoon:

Twitter / Christopher Hurt: “Tim Allen was not that funny twenty years ago, and now he has a new situational comedy?” ...

Twitter
/ Christopher Hurt: “Tigers finally near the K-State goal are difficult to ignore when simultaneously showing on ten television screens.” ...
Anyway I returned to work and to talk some with Joel, whom I have known since high school, and thought to myself:
This is gonna be so great!

However, I have to admit:

You’re telling the whole story all over again!

Friendship is magic, everyone.

Keeping up the habit 004

Following a viewing of two episodes, I can say that Ancient Inventions with Terry Jones is an excellent series. Denton told me a few things about Terry Jones, so I reference:
Terry Jones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“Terence Graham Parry Jones (born 1 February 1942) is a Welsh comedian, screenwriter, actor, film director, children's author, popular historian, political commentator, and TV documentary host. He is best known as a member of the Monty Python comedy team.”

In my performances last night, I felt that something was off, but my friend Patrick observed that I had good energy. I was again trying too hard to make puns, so my listening was suffering. I was not quite emotive enough either.

Academic theatre preparing to perform
first show of season

“The Music and Theatre Department at JCCC will present Equus, its first show of the season, from Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 14-16.

The academic production is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Bodker Black Box Theatre in the Carlsen Center. Seating is first-come, first-served basis.

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7-8 and Oct. 14-15 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15-16.

In Equus, psychiatrist Martin Dysart is confronted with Alan Strang, a boy who has blinded six horses in a violent fit of passion. The passion is as foreign to Dysart as the act itself. To the boy's parents, it is a hideous mystery because Alan has always adored horses. To Dysart it is a psychological puzzle that leads both doctor and patient to a complex and disturbingly dramatic confrontation.

Jim Lane, the chair of the Music and Theatre Department, is directing and designing the play, which was written by Peter Shaffer.

The department will produce several other shows this year, including The Anatomy of Gray by James Leonard. This poignant story, which is set in Indiana in the 1800s, deals with death, loss, love and healing. It will run from Nov 11-13 and Nov. 18-20.

Who’s Unicron?

For me, the TV event of last Saturday was not the Doctor Who season finale on BBC America, but the first part of the three-part Transformers Prime season finale on The Hub.

To which I cannot find a preview on-line, the episode features Unicron, the Chaos Bringer, and that reminds me of the following exchange from Transformers: The Motion Picture:
“Unicron? Who’s Unicron?”
A planet, that devours everything in its path.”
“So that’s the monster’s name.”
In My Little Transformer Episode 32, which can be viewed here, some confusion exists.
