Abstractly, I think the text has existed for longer, going all the way back to cave paintings and cuneiform, but the telephone itself had to exist before text messages could be sent on said device. Specifically, the Text Message turned 19 years old about 8 years ago and if someone is lame because they don’t use text messages, then we should urge them to rise up and walk.
