What do you know 019

In my initial post Toward flecked, I was unfriended for too vitriolically correcting the grammar of a friend on the above point. Also, the title here is not meant to be like a sarcastic retort, but more like, “Well, how about that.”

“Start 2013 by taking action for your health: Start using the Lifetime Fitness Center as early as Friday afternoon!

If you are a current JCCC employee -- adjunct, full-time or part-time regular -- you are eligible to use the fitness center and the indoor track area. Your spouses and college age dependent(s) are also eligible.

Before you can use the facilities, you must attend a one-hour orientation session. Orientation sessions are offered monthly at two times and are usually held outside the fitness center.

The next orientations are at noon or 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11.

To register for an orientation, call the fitness center. Specify that you are doing an employee orientation not a student orientation. Please note that center is open from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. over the break. You must call during these hours as you are not able to leave a message, or contact Ruth Dey.

Orientations are only for those who have not done an orientation at all or who have not attended the fitness center in the past three years.

Bring your employee ID number to your orientation session. At your orientation, allow easy access to your bicep for a blood pressure check. You do not need to dress out in activity clothes.

The instructor conducting the orientation session will:

• Have you sign a consent form

• Help you fill out a risk profile sheet

• Measure your pre-exercise heart rate and blood pressure

• Explain the policies and procedures of using the Fitness Center

• Explain the use of the machines in the circuit

Yearly updates are required. For your yearly update, walk into the fitness center, and the instructor on duty will take care of you.”
