A fortnight has passed since I have last seen, done or rehearsed improv. John had us practice some ‘second-level thinking,’ tonight, where we consider a following thought, rather than the first thing that enters our minds when hearing the suggestion: Imagine that the scene had been going for a while and start in the middle. From the perspective of the audience, the person on the right of the stage initiated the scene. The following is between Justin and Joel.
Following the suggestion ‘darts,’ Justin mimed a wallet and removal of cash, ‘Pleasure, losing to a champion such as yourself.’ Joel responded in the third person, and called himself ‘Rex.’
John commented that by starting in the middle, the audience had received the gift
of the story and imagining what had happened before.
