Celebratory note 010

Lately I have been more than my share of grouchy, but a good friend and co-worker is leaving for more than one opportunity. My manager tells the story in the following message:
“Patrick shared the great news that he has found a full time job in a desktop support role near his original home town in Warsaw, IN. His first day at work there will be Monday, February 28th. Friday, February 25th will be his last day at JCCC.

Patrick has been working hard to get this move accomplished. After becoming reacquainted with a High School friend nearly 3 years ago, they decided to get married and so were engaged in December of 2009. Since then, Patrick has worked hard and recently got his CCNA hoping that would help him in getting a job in northern Indiana so that he and Dawn could get together at last. Now they can move forward with all their plans!

Patrick, of course, will be missed. Not only by his team and all of us in IS, but also his customers who always enjoyed his positive attitude and dry wit. You never quite knew what Patrick might say…but it always made the person he was working with laugh, breaking any tension or worry that the user might have had. We all wish you the best of luck, Patrick. I appreciate everything you have done for me and the Help Desk team. Please keep in touch with us and let us know how you are doing. I’m sure you’ll be VERY successful in whatever you do.

Everyone, please feel free to stop by and visit with Patrick this week. I’ll keep you posted as to a gathering we will be sure to organized before Patrick leaves. I will forward an invite to the group under separate cover for that. I’m sure cake will be involved…Thanks”

‘Firefly’ returning to cable
“Browncoats rejoice: Firefly is returning to basic cable -- and Nathan Fillion has something to say about it. The Science Channel will wrap each episode with interstitial segments starring renowned physicist Dr. Michio Kaku, who will discuss the theoretical science behind the show’s sci-fi concepts.”
Such is actually quite serious and unfortunately all too common, but if I am ever asked how that happened, I will say, “Bystander at a gunfight.” I have bought a piece of Texas today, and I apologize for using a quote yesterday which makes light of buying a farm. Yes, as a certain self-styled time traveler, I may now call myself an owner of property, and I thank you, PayPal. An offer that I cannot refuse 007

Superior Chevrolet has service hours beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, so I shall be there. I had received my tax rebate from H&R Block, and last year I also used part of those funds for a repair. An offer that I could not refuse, the coupon was for new brake pads for $99.95 per axle. I had known that the rear drum brakes on the Chevy Cavalier should have been looked at a while ago.

With 100,000 miles, my service technician recommended that I also have the spark plugs replaced. The front brake discs were too thin to be re-milled, so I agreed to purchase new discs. The base of each rear drum was metal-against-metal, so I agreed to have them re-milled. I was pleased that I had the money to make my car safer; stops are so much better now. That was an offer that I cannot refuse, 007.

Track listing for my current mix CD

The following is a listing of the tracks from my current mix CD. Which were provided to me, four tracks are new to this edition, but most tracks have been on other compilation CDs. Because they tell stories, I enjoy many of these songs. Using my memories and Wikipedia as sources, I will reflect on each choice.
  1. Heat of the Moment” by Asia
Provided to me as part of another compilation, this song tells of young love and regrets of missed opportunity. This song was also used in South Park:
Kenny Dies” - “The Heat of the Moment
Cartman tries to persuade the government to revoke the ban on stem cell research and save Kenny’s life. He moves all of Congress to sing along with him.”
  2. Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake
This song is like an anthem for me, “I’m just another heart in need of rescue / Waiting on love’s sweet charity” I also tend to be habitual, “to be doing the same things over and over again.”
  3. The Unknown Stuntman” by Lee Majors
Unable to change the score, I empathize with the described, “But the hardest thing I’ll ever do is watch my leading ladies / Kiss some other guy while I'm bandaging my knee.” I also really like The Fall Guy truck. Along with others, this song was part of a personal compilation A Little Traveling Music.
  4. Is This Love” by Whitesnake
I like to think that I first heard this song on 98.1 KUDL, and I will never know, “Is this love that I’m feeling?” Later a co-host of America’s Funniest People, Tawny Kitaen is slowly sensuous, alone on a car in the music video.
  5. Promised Land” by Meat Loaf
Provided to me as part of another compilation, this song is covered by Meat Loaf. I first heard this song in Men In Black, although that version is by Elvis.
  6. Convoy” by C.W. McCall
Further evidence will be shown to prove the premise that I like songs about truck drivers. I like to think that I learned some things about C. W. McCall from I Love the ‘70s on VH1. The year in which I was born, 1978 saw the release of a feature film based on this song. As the Conveyor of the Matrix, Optimus Prime, whose alternate mode is a semi-tractor truck, is known as Convoy in Japan.
  7. Six Days on the Road” by Dave Dudley
In truth, I cannot tell who covered this version of the song. I like that the previous track “Convoy” ends, “Well we laid a strip for the Jersey Shore /And prepared to cross the line,” and “Six Days” begins, “Well, I pulled out of Pittsburgh, Rollin’ down the Eastern Seaboard.” Which was part of the concept for A Little Traveling Music, I like to imagine that the character in this song could have been part of the convoy in the last track.
  8. Take It Easy” by the Eagles
The lyric “Standin’ on the corner in Winslow, Arizona” is certainly memorable. My philosophy about money and credit has been another song by the Eagles, “Take it to the limit one more time,” which ironically often leaves, “a world of trouble on my mind.”
  9. East Bound and Down” by Jerry Reed
So things have not gone so well for our character in Arizona. All right, I concede that this song is for Smokey and the Bandit. I also like when I hear this song while I am driving east-bound.
  10. How Bizarre” by OMC
Hey, I recently linked to the music video! OMC is also an initialism. This song was played on the radio in 1997, when I began my studies at Johnson County Community College.
  11. All Star” by Smash Mouth
Provided to me as part of another compilation, I personally relate to this song, which accompanied the opening credits in Shrek (2001), and also appeared on the soundtrack to Digimon: The Movie (2000). I also remember watching the music video originally released for Mystery Men (1999) on VH1.
  12. One Week” by the Barenaked Ladies
Because I usually place this song after “All Star” on my compilations, I confuse these two groups. Provided to me as part of another compilation, this song also appeared on the soundtrack to Digimon: The Movie.
  13. My Town” by Montgomery Gentry
The town changes a little through time in this song.

I have lived in Merriam for my whole life, and I expect that that will not change for some time.
  14. The Rockafeller Skank” by Fatboy Slim
Provided to me as part of another compilation, I like the repeated riff of surf rock in this song, which also appeared on the soundtrack to Digimon: The Movie.
  15. “Theme from Knight Rider” by Stu Phillips
Without narration, this version of the song is purely instumental. Knight Rider is about a fantastic car (El Coche Fantástico), and I own the first season on DVD. With hope, someday we will resume movie night at the Roving Imp, and our look-alike to Hasselhoff, John, will also vote to watch this series.
  16. Motteke! Sailor-fuku” by the vocal cast of Lucky Star
The first words sound like, “I BUY SAUSAGE!” In Japan, the vocal cast often sings one or two songs in an anime series. This opening theme is performed by the vocal cast of Lucky Star: Aya Hirano, Emiri Kato, Kaori Fukuhara, and Aya Endo. Kyoto Animation produced Lucky Star (2007) and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2006), to which Lucky Star often makes reference; this song is so placed for this reason. This song also has an associated dance.
  17. Koi no Mikuru Densetsu” by Yuko Goto
I have linked to Anime Lyrics dot Com for the lyrics. From The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi - Geki Chuu Kashuu Single, this cute song is the opening theme for the short film that Haruhi creates in the series.
  18. God Knows...” by Hirano Aya
I have linked to Anime Lyrics dot Com for the lyrics. From The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi - Geki Chuu Kashuu Single, Haruhi sings this song to help a band in the episode “Live Alive.”
  19. Lost My Music” by Hirano Aya
I have linked to Anime Lyrics dot Com for the lyrics. From The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi - Geki Chuu Kashuu Single, Haruhi sings this song to help a band in the episode “Live Alive.”
  20. Hare Hare Yukai” by Aya Hirano
From The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Character Song Vol 1 - Haruhi Suzumiya, this song is the closing theme to the related anime series, and also has an associated dance.
  21. Ghosts N Stuff” by Deadmau5 from Club Anthems
Although this is the instrumental version, I first heard this song in Streetwise Drift Pro-Am event #1 from Chad Sommer on Vimeo. I finally bought the song after I heard it on Pandora mobile.
Thank you for your girlfriend, like your time.

We apologize 001

Although I will not be featuring the TV network of the same name, welcome to versus edition of the “We apologize” series.

One of my mix CDs mostly consists of Initial D: Best Song Collection 1998 - 2004. The anime series Initial D is about drifting and the world of illegal street-racing in Japan. Bryan Adams would diaper you.

From the Family Feud,
Name Something You Pass Around

Thank you, Screwed Up Texan, for the preceding, and thank you, Community Channel, for the following.
Getting A Room- A Valentines Day video
“Check out: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/blog/natalietran/caribbean2/ for my new vid/pics/blog and don’t forget to thumb me! Happy V-day, hope you dream of me creepily covering you in rose petals. Keep up to date on Twitter and Facebook.”
Misquoting “Everything I Do” by Stewie Griffin in Family Guy, Bryan Adams would diaper you.
Lonely Planet
“Lonely Planet - Share your feedback, suggestions or ask for help: Curious about the world? Believe travel is a force for good? So do we. - Mission: A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket, and a sense of adventure.”
That had been my belief; my dreams are all dead and buried.
Porsche Cajun rendered
“Porsche has set the goal of 200,000 vehicles by 2018 and the Cajun is expected to be the anchor in doing so. With the official green-light given to the the entry-level crossover in November, the Cajun is designed to attract new and younger customers. The Cajun will be an ‘efficient and sporty model’.”
Also this year, expect to see the new Ford Explorer and Ford Taurus in police use:
Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle Evaluation - January 2011
“The Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle will be made by GM Holden in Australia. Based on the Holden Caprice, it was recently evaluated by US police departments at the Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona. Holden took some cameras behind the scenes and captured this vision of ...”
Also via Jalopnik, the plight of small pick-up trucks may soon not be so deplorable:
Work on Next-Gen Colorado and Canyon for North America Under Way, Sources Say - PickupTrucks.com
“The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon small pickup trucks are expected to end production at their home in Shreveport, La., by June 2012, but that’s not the end of the road for GM’s midsize twins in North America, according to our sources.”
As I am now learning, one is constantly asked if one has won anything the day after a poker tournament.
Quick Drive: 2011 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor SuperCab 6.2-liter V-8 - PickupTrucks.com News
“The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and rooster tails go together like bacon and everything. Since its introduction, we’ve kicked up dirt, mud and rocks with both the original 5.4-liter and new 6.2-liter V-8 versions but we’ve never carved a Raptor through snow and ice, until now.”
I was not a participant, but someone else was asked.
Creepy Suggestive Paintings
“Audrey Kawasaki - Audrey Kawasaki is one of the many artists that have contributed to the ‘Suggestivism’ group exhibit that is being put on at the Grand Central Art ...”
Wow, ha ha, you almost caught my talking to myself!
I’ve Got You Dumb Mother------s Eating Right Out Of My Hand
“When we released the first Toy Story movie back in 1995, my colleagues and I were nervous about the response from critics and audiences.”
To thou, The Onion, I offer my thanks for the preceding. On Monday, I received some kind words from Tom Kessler, my colleague and friend:
“You’re a great guy, and you should be proud of who you are right now. Much love, and Happy Valentine’s Day, my friend!”
I sincerely thank you, Tom.

Botch-fest 013

Twitter / Mari Kurisato:
Selfish statement of the day.
Thank god for Egypt, because it’s the only thing NPR
would squelch their fundraising drive for.”
“The Republicans just released their budget proposal, and it zeroes out funding for both NPR and PBS--the worst proposal in more than a decade. We need to tell Republicans that cutting off funding was unacceptable last time they were in charge, and it’s unacceptable now. Will you sign the petition to...”
Rorschach: [reading from journal] They will look up and shout ‘Save us!’... and I’ll whisper ‘no.’”

Web Wanderings 019

When I was a child, I used to believe that Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny were real.
Diet Dr Pepper Hunt for the Unbelievable on Y! Music
“I just joined the Diet Dr Pepper Hunt for the Unbelievable. Help Diet Dr Pepper Guy hunt for his unbelievable friends on Yahoo! and pile up chances to win an unbelievably satisfying getaway worth $10,000! With an unbelievably great taste and zero calories, Diet Dr Pepper is unbelievably satisfying.”
For the most part, I still believe in everything to which I have been indoctrinated from either my parents, Back To The Future, or The Transformers.
Beautiful Mermaids - Dumage
“A mermaid is a mythological aquatic creature with a female human head and torso and the tail of a fish. Mermaids have a broad representation in folklore...”
I like your girlfriend in the Ngeye community, but there are plenty of fish in the sea.
Mini Skirts from 70s Vs. Modern Era - Looney Palace
“Mini-skirts were invented a long ago, but every time they become shorter and shorter! I believe that for many this modern skirts look really better that the old...”
For the record, I must admit that the following is the principal reason that I like my anime.
Japanese are Masters to Draw Provocative Girls! - Weird Existence
“We all know for Japanese obsession with girls in uniforms, whether they are in school uniforms, nurses, cops or anything you can imagine, we must admit that...”
The IRS has accepted your tax return. We will notify you when your check is available for pick-up. Thank you for choosing H&R Block.
Brilliant Collection of Most Amazing CG Women Portraits
“A brilliant collection of most amazing CG women portraits. I did some research and I have created this really huge list of the best CG female images that I was able to find.”
Intent to seize the moment, I will now take a nap!
Totally Crazy and Unique Pin Up X-Ray Calendar - Stella’s Magazine
“These are photos of the most unique calender ever. I am not sure if you have ever thought how would those great looking pin up girls look like one the x-ray...”
Gee, I really, really shouldn’t shout.
Very Weird Artwork - Weird Existence
“We present You some very weird art by Ben Newman.”
Receiving a call from a lender, who owns my only nondeferrable loan, causes me to want to file for bankruptcy.
20 Hottest Girls from Video Games - Dumage
“Since Tomb Raider had hit the market in 1996, with its heroine Lara Croft, it looks like all game developers are just trying to bring us more and more girls.”
The rallying character would say, “Nap time is over.”

I don’t know, do you 010

Twitter / John Pozadzides:
Why is abbreviation such a long word?”

When Windows is abbreviated, the e-mail ‘Win 7 Drivers for HP 2600’ becomes much less fun than it sounds. I had assumed that I now had a prize to claim, so that internal message was indeed peculiar.
Study: Your intellect is what you eat
“Maybe if Michelle Obama’s healthy eating intitative—now celebrating its first anniversary—is really to catch on with the American public, it should rebrand ‘junk food’ as ‘dumb food.’ A new study from a research team at Britain’s University of Bristol correlates IQ performance to the quality of ...”
At Denton’s house last night, I created a new mix CD using iTunes on my Dell while we were watching Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. In the following review, an observation may be altered to reveal a personal truth, “Christopher’s priority seems to center on doing Ottawa University like things rather than writing the paper.”
No Case Too Small: Heroman « Reverse Thieves
Heroman wasn’t exactly a great show, but when Holly’s love of being a detective comes to the surface in a later episode, I had to laugh. When livestock and eventually people start disappearing the case has everyone baffled. Then when Professor Denton goes off to look for something he winds up missing...”
To my dismay, as well as the dismay of my sister Kimberly, I left my new mix CD at home this morning. This is not quite as promotional as 98.1 KUDL for Taylor Swift, whose song from the advertisement still rattles in my mind.
How to decide whether to go to work | ITworld
“IT job satisfaction is low, stress is high, but nothing good is on TV.”
Fortunately, someone commented ‘going to Wichita’ in response to John’s posting a link to the Roving Imp Tiny Group Festival; this reminded me of a song by The White Stripes.
The Best Of Hipster Little Mermaid
“The Best Of Hipster Little Mermaid: The Hipster Ariel Meme has been floating around Tumblr recently. It’s like if Disney traded singing animals and magic for ‘underground music’ and PBR. You have The Little Mermaid remastered on DVD? I still have it on VHS...Meme Generator”
Matthew Moore is the best hipster that I personally know. The description causes me to wonder; how does PBR Bull Riding relate to Disney?
The Largest Organisms Ever - Road Tickle
“The world is full of creatures, both big and small, and when we think of the largest creatures on the planet, we typically think of elephants, whales and huge...”
Hey, Jimmy John’s is located next to the H&R Block in the City of Mission, KS!
Carbon tax on carnivores - Holy Kaw!
“Many people think with either their wallets or their stomachs. Taking advantage of that can be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A tax on meat and milk would likely mean we’d buy less of the foods that contribute to climate change.”
Ooh, déjà vu feels present; that will work, yeah right.
BBC - Richard Black’s Earth Watch: UN sticks with climate agenda - but what prospects?
“Reports suggesting that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is retiring from the climate change agenda have had commentators wondering a) what it means for prospects of a new global climate agreement...”
Of course, the Democratic Party also lives in fantasy.
Incredible Fantasy Images - Dumage
“These fantastic images were done by Andy Park - concept artist / illustrator. Enjoy his incredible artwork.”
Whitney Beiler is correct; this is a lame waste of tax dollars.
Obama Calls for $53 Million for High Speed Rail - US News and World Report
“The president plans to include the funding in his 2012 budget.”
The sly Hannah Mott once mentioned something like this:
Err, Call Me: Vumber Gives You Throw-Away Phone Numbers For Dating, Work
“By now you’ve probably heard of Google Voice, a service that lets you take one phone number and configure it to ring all of your phones — work, mobile, home, whatever — with plenty of settings to manage your inbound and outbound calls. But what if you wanted the opposite: a service that lets you spa...”
At QuikTrip I bought ice, and my Chevy Cavalier posted 24.737 miles per gallon or 9.474 liters per 100 kilometers.

YBH - your brain hurts 003

Ferrari, I also lift my eyebrows to Magnum, P.I.Twitter / Mari Kurisato: “also hilariously bouncy ...”

Okay, I have taken her quote out of context, because she is actually talking about a song on YouTube, and which is now linked through the above image, which itself was used for the same song by another user. Probably, I have been more tired than right now.
One in 10 of world’s adults obese
“One in 10 adults worldwide is obese, according to a new study which shows that the prevalence of obesity has almost doubled since 1980.”
Back To The Future, I have always wanted to become a statistic.
American life span gains shrinking - Holy Kaw!
“Over the past 25 years, life expectancy after 50 has risen in the United States, but at a slower rate than in countries like Japan and Australia, said the National Academy of Sciences report. High smoking rates in the past, combined with widespread obesity, continue to chip away at U.S. life expectancy...”
But I only lived to this ‘ripe, old age’ by procrastination.
Like the Spice | Jason Bard Yarmosky
“Jason Bard Yarmosky’s most current body of work Elder Kinder addresses the innocence at both ends of the generational spectrum. Yarmosky recruits his eager Brooklyn-born grandparents, two models very close to him, to pose in an assortment of playful costumes. Whimsical yet grounded in their age...”
I found the previous site via an ad on the Facebook. The following article could be characterized by saying, “An ad by VW also ‘addresses the innocence at the young end of the generational spectrum.’”
TV review: Cultural zeitgeist, scored by Super Bowl ads
“The effects of 45 (or XLV, if you must) direct slams to the head could be clearly seen Sunday night on that annual American CAT scan called the Super Bowl. Whole parts of our collective cerebellum now show up as having the color and consistency of old gum. Too many insipid Black Eyed Peas songs ...”
Ooh, déjà vu seems painful, Steampunk, because I remember hearing that earlier.
CocoRosie - Gallows
CocoRosie on Sub Pop. BUY the album Grey Oceans here.”
I wonder, who were the sources for Denton?
It Doesn’t Look That Cold Out, Reports Man Who Doesn’t Have Thermo-Sensing Eyes
“BUFFALO, NY—According to 33-year-old Sam Paik, whose ocular capacity does not include the ability to visualize the heat spectrum, it doesn’t look cold outside.”
This preceding article was quoted in part for a great suggestion for David in last night’s class at the Roving Imp Theater. To thou, The Onion and John, I offer my thanks.

Tiny Group Festival!

The Roving Imp Tiny Group Festival only received a tiny mention from me recently, but has also been carried in The Kansas City Star:
