“The JCCC Debate team closed out the first semester with one of their most successful tournaments of the season this weekend at Illinois State University.

The team of Brenden Brower-Freeman and Jesse Nation won the junior varsity tournament championship after defeating Kansas City Kansas Community College on a 3-0 decision in finals. They earned the second seed of the tournament after a 5 - 1 preliminary round record with victories over KCKCC, Lindenwood, Concordia College, and Illinois State University.

The team of Alexis McMahon and Fernando Cardenas finished in third, with a quarterfinal debate against the University of Minnesota to advance to the semi-finals. There they were matched up against the higher seeded JCCC team of Brower-Freeman and Nation and thus did not advance to the finals, finishing in third place for the tournament.

In the varsity division, typically reserved for students in their junior or senior season, the team of Daniel Plott and David Cuellar advanced to the elimination rounds before losing in the quarterfinals. This is the third time this year that Cuellar and Plott have advanced to the elimination rounds of a varsity tournament.

The team also won four individual speaking awards. In the junior varsity division, Cardenas was recognized as the sixth overall speaker and Brower-Freeman was 10th. In the varsity division, Cuellar was recognized as the fourth speaker and Plott was 10th.”

JCCC and Ottawa University approve pathway to bachelor’s degrees
Here enjoy another Twilight Sparkle in a similar way like the others
Twilight Sparkle by *KittenSeitz on deviantART
“JCCC and Ottawa University signed an agreement Tuesday that will allow JCCC students to earn a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa at a reduced cost.

With the signing, JCCC president Terry Calaway and Ottawa president Kevin Eichner created a pathway called OttawaU at JCCC. In January, Ottawa will begin offering classes at JCCC that will lead to bachelor degrees in human services, health care management, business administration with a marketing concentration, and public administration with a management concentration.

The bachelor degrees, available only to JCCC students, allow students to take up to 80 credit hours at JCCC and the remaining junior and senior-level classes through Ottawa. Ottawa will be offering scholarships to students who take their classes, which could allow students to save up to 40 percent on the completion of their bachelor’s degree.

Ottawa also will be setting up its classes in a way that will allow a student to complete a degree at an accelerated pace.

To learn more, visit OttawaU at JCCC Transfer Advantage.

Additional information is available.”

no tengo dinero

While I rode with my friend Aaron to lunch at Subway on Monday, Aaron remarked, “I remember this from my freshman year in college,” as Alice 102 played a selection from Pearl Jam. Now known as 95-7 The Vibe, I first heard alternative rock on Channel Z95.7 during my freshman year in college, and even picked up a CD at a mobile broadcast.
And if you do, I'd like to see what you've done!

“This game was over shortly after it started last Monday at JCCC.

The JCCC women’s basketball team, ranked No. 1 in NJCAA D-II, scored 31 unanswered points to start the game, and cruised to a 102-31 victory over Missouri Valley JV.

Amazingly, the 71-point margin of victory was not a record in the series. The Lady Cavaliers downed the Vikings by 112 points (145-33) on Nov. 18, 1991.

Six players finished in double figures scoring for Johnson County. Sophomore forward Kathleen Brisbane led the way with 16 points, hitting eight of her nine field goal attempts.”

Guilty Pleasure?

After our show at the Underground Theater in Lawrence on last night, I drove David home, and went to the home of my friend Denton, who was among other friends streaming American Horror Story on Netflix. My friend Joe tried to explain to me how the show is a guilty pleasure for him, yet I think that he has misapplied the term, because I found nothing for which he should feel guilty.
