Postscript to Experiment 030

JCCC debate team ranked 15th in nation
WHAT NOW CRYSTAL PONIES?
TIME TO SHINE by ~Wolframclaws on deviantART
“The JCCC debate team was ranked 15th in the nation in the most recent set of national rankings produced by the Cross-Examination Debate Association.

The team is ranked ahead of traditional debate powerhouse schools such as Emory University, Wake Forest University and Harvard and ahead of regional institutions including Missouri State University, Kansas State, Wichita State, University of North Texas and Baylor.

Rankings are determined by the number of preliminary and elimination rounds teams have won at tournaments they have attended. More than 100 member institutions are included in the report.”
A resolution to be debated is to what experiment I could be writing a postscript.

Since I have been home this afternoon, I have been watching Ink Master on Spike, where professionals in a given craft compete, so I can now understand the enjoyment that our friend and creative director John finds the reality shows Top Chef and Project Runway. “As winter weather approaches, you can find out if the college is closed because of the weather in one of these ways:
  • The announcement will be posted on Twitter (you can follow the college at JCCCTweet) and on the college’s Facebook page.
  • Call the main college number – 913-469-8500 – to hear a recorded message. (Please remember that lots of calls will be coming into the switchboard, so it is not necessary to talk with the operator to confirm the recorded message.)
  • These TV stations have made arrangements to receive and announce closing notices: KMBC-TV 9, KSHB-TV 41, KCTV-TV 5, and WDAF-TV-4. Note that it can take a while for an announcement to appear on television, so you are encouraged to use one of the other vehicles as your primary source of information.
  • Several radio stations also receive and announce notices, including KCUR, KMBZ and KCMO. In addition, one station in Lawrence (KLZR) and Kansas Public Radio also communicate weather closings.
  • If the decision to cancel classes is made during the day, the announcement will also be posted on the digital signs, and faculty and staff will receive a message on InfoList.”

For safety’s sake: Take care when setting back your clocks

“Remember we fall back one hour Sunday, Nov. 4, when daylight saving time ends.

When resetting the clock in your office/classroom, please avoid falls and possible injuries by using sturdy step stools or ladders to reach clocks. Also, if necessary, don’t hesitate to request assistance from a colleague or submit a service request to Campus Services.”

“Speaking of sturdy step stools and ladders, if you decorate your work area for the upcoming holidays, properly use these instead of a chair, table or your desk. In the past some JCCC employees have had near misses using improper devices to reach heights.”

I hope you feel better

The SEMA Show have their winners for hottest car and 4x4/SUV; I award the best shared pictures of the event to the Coker Tire Company. Pity, some exhibits exhibit no taste, and while that may make one ill, I have too been ill, yet because of phlegm. I was not at rehearsal yesterday; I took my time to rest, and Joel wished, “I hope you feel better.”

The Ren & Stimpy Show - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ren & Stimpy Show, often simply referred to as Ren & Stimpy, is an American animated television series, created by Canadian animator John Kricfalusi. The show premiered on August 11, 1991 on Nickelodeon as part of its Nicktoons block along with Rugrats and Doug. The series focuses on the titular character…”
I watched two episodes of the above series at the home of Denton tonight. At work, I have been given the task of documenting a process, and afternoon naps make fools of us all, so I have not had the time to properly write a post today.

Summary of Improv Goals 028

If one was to “walk around the left side of the building, and to the Underground Theater in the rear of the lot” on the evening of Friday, November 2, then one would have seen one of our best shows in Lawrence to date. Part of the honesty of this blog, last week we had higher energy, so that week may have been better. This week, the highlight of the first set, one which I can still remember, was the game of Hitchhiker, where the guesser (i.e., the driver of the vehicle) is sent outside while the other players are assigned a personality or quirk.
Julie is the sister of John, and was our guesser. For a vehicle Julie chose a scooter with a sidecar. John and I were among the five players. Julie correctly guessed our characteristics, and only John remained.

I ran up beside the scooter and said, “Hey, I own a theater! Your name is my name, too!”

Although Julie next guessed John McCain, she soon realized that John was John Boehner, once his position as Speaker [of the House] was mentioned.
For the middle set, we ran a format called Soap Opera, where we ask the audience for genre and a setting, was based on the suggestion, “Jersey Shore in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.”
In one of the first scenes, Frank and I noted the collapse of the club scene.
I dragged John on stage to be President Obama opposite my Chris Christie.
Gov. Christie: Obama has been ‘outstanding’
The following defines one of the stronger characteristics of this format.
Melodrama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“The term melodrama refers to a dramatic work that exaggerates plot and characters in order to appeal to the emotions. It may also refer to the genre which includes such works, or to language, behavior, or events which resemble them. It is usually based around having the same character traits, for example …”
While the Urban Dictionary defines the A.V. Club, the Roving Imp recalls The Mixer, where the names of improvisers are placed in a bowl and drawn at random to participate in scenes; whether he or she is in an ensemble or merely takes classes, any improviser present in the audience may play.

Walk of Life

I somehow feel the need to disambiguate the title of this post, En route to our show at the Underground Theater in Lawrence on Friday night, David drove and played a collection greatest hits from Dire Straits, among the songs was Walk of Life, which is not to be confused with the local Walk for Life.Gosh, I sure do love limited color palettes

I have been ill today, so I will spare you those details,

This is senseless 025

The most disgusting thing done by the environmental lobby and this complicit, sycophantic media is to link severe storms to anthropogenic global warning. This president must already have a lease ready for February.
President Obama Blames Hurricane Sandy on Mitt RomneyToBeRIGHT
“In a stunning announcement, Barack Obama stated the Mitt Romney is personally responsible for the death and destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.”
This is senseless. Kitto I must write a disclaimer about the strong language that will soon appear in this post.
“In a ridiculous new ad released by left-wing group MoveOn.org with the help of Michael Moore, senior citizens are shown talking about what they'll do if Mitt Romney wins the election. Among the absurdities, ...”
This is senseless; I despise pranks.
