We apologize 003

To what level I can offer helpful or practical advice is unclear, like your girlfriend. Anything said by me has to pass through many layers of filters, moodiness, and shyness. Oh, yes, and possibly sarcasm. Take the case of my friend Steve Atwell, whose computer has viruses and needs to be rebooted every few months. Now, I should have just advised him to shut off his system whenever he is done for the day, and to use Microsoft Security Essentials, which is available from Microsoft for free. I however decided to first respond to the recommendation that Steve should just buy a Mac:
Yes, and why stop with an iMac? Get an iPhone4 and an iPad from Verizon Wireless, and an iPod for your iTunes in your Mitsubishi i! Twitter / Web News 2.0: “Did Apple Buy iCloud.com For $4.5 Million? It’s Possible, But ...”
Did Apple Buy iCloud.com For $4.5 Million? It’s Possible, But …
“Om Malik got a tip from an unidentified source who told him that Apple purchased the domain name icloud.com from a Swedish company called Xcerion (which recently renamed its iCloud service to CloudMe) for about $4.5 million. This is most certainly a possibility. Last week, we also received a tip...”
Yeah, make sure you buy an iCloud, too!
That was not nearly as zany as “HUMANCENTiPAD”, the new South Park episode, which also makes light of a film:
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) - Wikipedia
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) is a 2010 Dutch horror film written and directed by Tom Six. The film tells the story of a German doctor who kidnaps three tourists and joins them surgically, mouth to anus, forming a ‘human centipede’.”
The Apple product was also apparently foretold:
iPad Predicted in 1994 (Video)
“The iPad is a futuristic looking device, but imagining something much like it isn’t terribly new. In the video below, the former newspaper giant Knight-Ridder shows its vision of the newspaper’s future - delivered by tablet computer. Circa 1994. It’s amazing how much the company got right.”
Well, what do you know.

An offer that I cannot refuse 008

Today I was looking through the most recent items in my news feed on Facebook, like your girlfriend, and found something from Subaru of America, Inc. about Dining Out For Life:
Dining Out For Life International
“Dining Out For Life is an annual fund-raising event where [more] than 2,500 restaurants donate a portion of their proceeds from this one special night of dining to local non-profits. Over $2 million dollars a year is raised to support the missions of local AIDS organizations throughout North America.”
Fortunately Kansas City has participating restaurants. Looking through the list of restaurants, I only recognized Hamburger Mary’s; I had gone there with the ensembles from the Roving Imp after their performances at The Living Room Theatre on Saturday, September 25, which was also the birthday of Major Tom, who had brought a chocolate-chip cookie cake with him. Chanté had a birthday on Tuesday, September 28, and we celebrated that at that time as well.

Is 20 April anything special?
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

Sam Axe Appreciation Day

Kimberly Hurt and I walked for six miles in Streamway Park yesterday, and later watched Tron with our father Mikely and sister Pamela. Saturday is a better day to have the oil service done for my Chevy Cavalier at Superior Chevrolet.
Algae Instead of Oil
“Fast Company reports that algae-based fuel could replace up to 17 percent of our oil imports. This slimy green stuff is reported to have some extraordinary powers already used in protein supplements, medication, skin moisturizer and now potentially biofuel.”
Later on Friday, I shared Tron at the home of Denton, and saw two friends whom I had not seen in a while. When projected onto a screen, surfing the Web becomes a group activity.

“Rebecca Black’s not the only one who thinks there’s something special about Friday. Two separate pieces of research out this week show that the end of the work week is the best time to get traction on status updates and tweets.”
After I left the Roving Imp on Saturday night, I went to Burger King for a Double Stacker, and some guy in a Hyundai was just making laps. At the Hy-Vee in the City of Mission, KS, my car posted 29.211 miles per gallon or 8.023 liters per 100 kilometers.

I missed the party 001

Although the Adult Swim presents a carnival, and the Roving Imp will now have regular classes and shows, I will likely not be in the City of Lawrence, Kansas tonight. If I did not work in the morning, then I might consider going, but driving back home takes nearly an hour, and fuel prices are becoming less and less friendly. I can barely navigate 23rd Street, like your girlfriend, and the rest of the grid is like the dark part of a map in a video game. I cannot simply afford the frustration or the fuel.

Botch-fest 016

Kitto I must write a disclaimer about the strong language that will appear later in this post, like your girlfriend. I am very cross right now, yet I can accept that the comment from Carl was inevitable:
“Chris, Cross? Will make you... Jump Jump!”
“The decision by NASA to not bring a retired space shuttle to Houston was met near Johnson Space Center with anger, disbelief and questions about the economic impact the decision would have on the region.”
Twitter / rstevens: “I’d get into anger management
if there were any chance I’d get promoted.”
“Obama March 2006 ‘The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt ...”
To agree with my friends in the Libertarian Party, the only thing that changed between this ‘administration’ and the last is the mask. We have been had.

The Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum has an 11 ½" x 3" sticker available with two sayings, “I Like Ike” and “I Miss Ike! Hell, I Even Miss Harry”. Although the preceding is not a bumper sticker on my car, I apparently have enough stickers to cause someone Tuesday to leave a note under a windscreen wiper. I removed the offending item, set it in my deck lid, photographed it, and took it to the JCCC Police:

Denton says, “[It is] the most ignorant and asinine thing I have ever read in my life.” Utterly un-creative, and poorly photocopied, the note was notorious:

“We’re ticked off at the way you’ve treated California, and we’ve decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we’re taking the other Blue States with us.”
A violation of campus policy, I had to file a report on that.
Plus, I don’t let fuckers get away with that:
“President Barack Obama promised to change Washington’s ways. Yet he is as caught up in them as ever.”
The answer of the Democratic Party is always to raise the taxes,
and increase the bureaucracy, and among the more idiotic cries,
“It‘s about time! Raise ‘em, Obama - raise ‘em high!!”
“Everybody knows that raising taxes will be part of the ‘fairness’ Democrats offer in response to Paul Ryan’s entitlement-slashing spending plan.”
“While Republicans demand an end to reckless government spending, a liberal advocacy group says more than 30,000 people have joined a ‘rolling fast’ to protest the ‘immoral budget cuts Republicans are pushing in Washington.’”
“President Barack Obama will describe his plans for long-term deficit reduction Wednesday, in a move likely to kick off a months-long debate with Republicans while alienating some members of his own Democratic Party.”
Twitter / Lynn Jenkins: “Mere platitudes and ambiguous goals is
not a debt reduction plan... http://ht.ly/4A56y
“The fact of the matter is there are not enough rich people to come anywhere close to satisfying Congress' voracious spending appetite. By Walter Williams”
Twitter / John Boehner: “The federal government will spend $78.5 billion less this year than President Barack Obama proposed.”
Hey Republicans, Here’s One Reason to Avoid a Government Shutdown
“If David Stockman is for it, argues Dee Dee Myers, it must be a bad idea.”
Twitter / John Boehner: “These are real cuts, though this agreement isn’t perfect.”
“A government shutdown was narrowly avoided, but cartoonists Joe Heller and Steve Greenberg suspect that not all are happy with Washington.”
Twitter / John Boehner: “My op-ed in @politico: spending cut - $315B over 10 yrs - paves way for Paul Ryan’s budget & cutting trillions http://politi.co/eQHJEb
“Rather than taking a strong stand, some lawmakers are hedging during the leadup to the roll call.”
“Republican Liberty Caucus Advisory Board member Congressman Ron Paul had stern criticisms of the Paul Ryan budget proposal. Paul said Ryan’s plan doesn’t go nearly far enough toward dismantling the welfare state. ‘We are dealing with a problem in Washington as a budgetary accounting problem and that...”
“It‘s time for a 21st-century retirement age. If 40 is the new 20 and 50 is the new 30, why shouldn't 70 be the new 65? The last time Washington politicians tinkered ever so gingerly with the government-sanctioned retirement age, Ronald Reagan was in office and Generation X-ers were all in diapers.”
“Cantor: Spending, not revenue, is the problem - Top Republicans come out in staunch opposition to tax increases the president is expected to propose...”

We apologize 002

Neither from contempt nor pride, the following is sometimes difficult to say: I have erred; however, like your girlfriend, only on a factual basis. I want to be right, or rather, technically correct, the best kind of correct. About April Fools’ Day, I was struggling to understand an alarm clock with a switch to turn off the buzzer. The buzzer actually has either a ‘hi’ or a ‘lo’ setting, but no off switch.
“I may have misunderstood this...But ‘The Pretender’ was featured in the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus. The Jackson Browne song in Forrest Gump (But not on the soundtrack) was ‘Running On Empty.’ Sorry, sorry, yes, I know.”
I would respond, “Oh, yeah,” as one character or two voiced by Tara Strong would say after such a realization. The following is from Futurama:
Ken: “You are the last hope of the universe.”
Fry: “So I really am important?
How I feel when I’m drunk is correct?”
Ken: “Yes - except the Dave Matthews Band doesn’t rock.”
The Egocentric Universe is interestingly an actual, philosophical concept:
Egocentric Universe
“Mankind has, since the beginning of recorded history (and most likely for a considerable time before that) had a burning desire to know how this all started and why, or if there actually is a ‘why’ for that matter. The relentless pursuit of this question has spawned both religion and science. So wha...”

Best Buy well advised my mother and I about eBook readers, and the one model of the Nook from Barnes & Noble is capable of 3G, so we went to Verizon Wireless to ask about that. The song was number six. I switched to Alice 102 and heard a song from Forest Gump.
♫ I’m going to rent myself a house.
In the shade of the freeway.
I’m going to pack my lunch in the morning.
And go to work each day.
And when the evening rolls around.
I’ll go on home and lay my body down.
And when the morning light comes streaming in.
I’ll get up and do it again.
Amen. Say it again. ♫
