“JCCC is joining colleges and universities across the United States in celebrating International Education Week from Nov. 11-15. Sponsored by the U.S. Departments of State and Education, International Education Week celebrates efforts to prepare students for a global environment and to attract future leaders from abroad to study here. The events are free and open to the public.
- International Education Week Kickoff, 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, COM lobby. JCCC international students will wear traditional clothing from their countries. Enjoy a piece of Mexican wedding cake, starting at 11 a.m. until it runs out.
- Volunteering in Africa, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, GEB 264. Dave Ellis, Janette Jasperson and Mary Smith will discuss their experiences of volunteering in Africa. Anyone interested in Africa or in developing world issues is welcome to come join the conversation.
- World Mythologies in Contemporary Culture, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, COM 156. Students enrolled in World Mythologies will set up table displays, costumes, and food explaining their research into international myths.
- Viewing and discussion of the film Danny from North Korea, 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, COM 319. Activists from the organization Liberty in North Korea will be present to discuss the film and their experiences of life in North Korea.
- Cultural Celebration, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, COM Level 2 tables. JCCC international students will set up table displays about their countries. The International Club will sponsor a bake sale featuring international snacks. Everyone is encouraged to talk with and support our students.
- Fiesta Fundraiser for Latino Students, 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, COM 155. Enjoy a Zumba demonstration, door prizes, games, food and Latin American music while helping provide scholarships for students. Tickets are $5 each and are available in COM 306 or at the door the day of the event.
- International Roundtable Discussion by Timothy Hoare, 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, GEB 264. Hoare will discuss the topic “A Cultural Place in Foreign Space: The Overseas Chinese in Mainland Southeast Asia” based on his trip last summer to Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Faculty interested in Asia are particularly encouraged to attend.”

“It’s Fall Festival time at the JCCC Bookstore and C-Store! Shop for savings throughout the store during Fall Festival Week. In addition, there will be special events throughout the week as follows:
- Monday, Nov. 11: Veterans Day. Bring your veteran’s or military I.D. to the bookstore and register to win a gift basket with a $50 MSRP value. Drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 11.
- Tuesday, Nov. 12: Health Care Day. 20 percent off watches, stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs. Register to win a $25 gift certificate good for beauty treatment from the JCCC cosmetology department. Drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15.
- Wednesday, Nov. 13: Spirit Day. 25 percent off JCCC logo merchandise. Guess the correct number of candy corn in the jar to be eligible to win a JCCC sweatshirt and t-shirt worth $60 (MSRP). Winner will be announced at 3 p.m. Nov. 13.
- Thursday, Nov. 14: Loyalty Day. Stop by the table at the front entrance to the bookstore and get 25 reward points for free! If you are not a member of the reward program, you can sign up. Bring a canned food item for the JCCC food pantry and receive an additional 25 bonus points.
- Friday, Nov. 15: Bonus Friday for the Arts. 20 percent off most art supplies (kits, silver and clay excluded). Register to win a gift basket of art materials worth $50 (MSRP). Drawing held at 3 p.m. Nov. 15.
