Whirlwind weekend 009

Earlier in the afternoon on Friday, August 31, Denton and I ran some errands, “many of us saw a good, soaking rain from the remnants of Hurricane Isaac on Friday,” so I no longer wanted to drive any great distance to see the shows at the Ecumenical Christian Ministries building in Lawrence, or to try in the dark and rain to find the Uptown Arts Bar, to which I had never been, to experience the jazz of MBIRD.

I remained at the home of Denton; he, Hannah, Joshuaa and I played Nintendo-branded Monopoly that Josh brought, and had more fun than Rush Limbaugh on the EIB Network.

“Construction is nearing completion on the stretch of Quivira Road between 119th Street and College Boulevard.

The construction schedule for the week includes:
  • Starting Tuesday, Sept. 4, weather permitting, the contractor is scheduled to begin working on Quivira Road north of College Boulevard and south of 119th Street to match the new surface into the existing street. Drivers should expect delays at those two intersections between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Two lanes of Quivira Road will be open in each direction south of College Boulevard and north of 119th Street.
  • Again, weather permitting, starting at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, the contractor is scheduled to begin laying the final layer of asphalt on southbound Quivira Road. The early start is in response to traffic patterns on Quivira. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane from 6:30 a.m. until approximately 4 p.m. Drivers should expect delays.
  • Starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, weather permitting, the contractor is scheduled to begin laying the final layer of asphalt on northbound Quivira Road. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane and drivers should expect delays.
Road construction on the stretch of Quivira Road between College Boulevard and 119th Street is expected to be completed by Saturday, Sept. 8. The remaining work on sidewalks and plantings is not expected to cause major traffic disruptions.”
Before I saw the Kick Comedy Show & KCIC House Team GloryFan on Saturday at the Kick Comedy Theater, I went to Green Room Burgers & Beer, which is owned by a member of the Holy Cow! Improv Comedy Troupe and her fiancee, “Picture love.”

“The JCCC office of emergency preparedness is participating in the ninth annual National Preparedness Month 2012 Coalition, which is intended to encourage all Americans to take steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, schools, organizations, businesses and communities. The goal is to make preparedness a part of our daily lives and not one single month.

This year’s theme is ‘Pledge to Prepare – Awareness to Action’. The coalition is asking individuals, business, and organizations to take specific action steps
The Kansas City Renaissance Festival was to have been our destination Monday, but Denton and I forgot to pick up discounted tickets at the Student Activities desk; I don’t know how we missed that errand among those that we ran on Friday afternoon, but we severely disappointed Raa. She joined me at my home on Sunday morning to watch the new episode of Doctor Who.

Instead of rehearsal on Sunday at the home of John, I went to the home of Denton to help him study discrete math, and we later began an episode of this series, just before I needed to leave for the night.

Last night, I met the Anime Club for a special screening of Marvel’s Avengers at the Cinemark 20. Before I today buy some Hot Pockets at Sam’s Club, I will go to SureWest Communications, a Wendy's, and the Mainstreet Credit Union.
