Web Wanderings 024

World Smile Day
“This is the official website for World Smile Day ®, created by Harvey Ball of Worcester, MA, who in 1963 designed the original smiley face. World Smile Day® is celebrated around the world on the first Friday of October every year. The theme of the day is ‘Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile…’”
Mozilla Firefox has made me aware of that. Seeing a bright orange Nissan GT-R on Shawnee Mission Parkway was one of the highlights of my afternoon on Thursday.
OK OK OK, the spelling shows no difference for the Hyundai car or the animal.

Academic theatre preparing to perform
first show of season

“The Music and Theatre Department at JCCC will present Equus, its first show of the season, from Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 14-16.

The academic production is free and open to the public. It will be held in the Bodker Black Box Theatre in the Carlsen Center. Seating is first-come, first-served basis.

The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7-8 and Oct. 14-15 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 8-9 and Oct. 15-16.

In Equus, psychiatrist Martin Dysart is confronted with Alan Strang, a boy who has blinded six horses in a violent fit of passion. The passion is as foreign to Dysart as the act itself. To the boy's parents, it is a hideous mystery because Alan has always adored horses. To Dysart it is a psychological puzzle that leads both doctor and patient to a complex and disturbingly dramatic confrontation.

Jim Lane, the chair of the Music and Theatre Department, is directing and designing the play, which was written by Peter Shaffer.

The department will produce several other shows this year, including The Anatomy of Gray by James Leonard. This poignant story, which is set in Indiana in the 1800s, deals with death, loss, love and healing. It will run from Nov 11-13 and Nov. 18-20.

Top Gear + My Little Pony = My Little Top Gear
“God bless whatever ancestors of technology that toiled for decades at shrinking transistors and mapping images into math so that we could have this: the best mash up of Top Gear you’ll ever see.”
