Memorial Day, 2011

The weekend of Memorial Day is many things in the United States, although all are not necessarily for what the holiday was intended: to honor those who died in the service of their country. This weekend marks the unofficial start of summer. Big summer movies, summer fashion, outdoor grilling, and swimming pools are all applicable imagery.

Serving in the Air Force during Vietnam, my father is a veteran, and this weekend is one of the few during which he grills. A close group, my two parents, two younger sisters and I all live in the same house Merriam, Kansas.
